The Clay Studio was founded by Gayan Satyajith, whose practice is shaped by over a decade of experience. After studying in Japan, he returned to Sri Lanka to establish a studio that has since grown into a respected space for learning, practice, and exchange.

Wheel Throwing Workshop
This workshop is designed for those who want a hands-on introduction to the pottery wheel. Through guided practice, you'll learn the fundamental techniques while developing a feel for the clay, the wheel, and the rhythm of the process. No previous experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore. Topics Covered: • Centering the clay • Opening and controlling form • Shaping cups and bowls

Hand Building Workshop — Form & Structure
This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of hand-building with clay. Focusing on traditional, tactile techniques, it invites you to understand the material beyond the wheel—working slowly, intuitively, and with structural awareness. The course emphasizes form, balance, and the expressive potential of clay shaped by hand. Ideal for beginners and for those who wish to expand their practice through manual, sculptural approaches to working with clay. Topics Covered: • Pinch technique • Coil building • Slab construction and slab joining

Wheel Throwing Course | 5 Sessions
This course is designed for those who already have a foundation in pottery and wish to deepen their wheel-throwing practice. Through focused repetition and refinement, you'll develop greater control, consistency, and confidence in the making process. By the end of the course, you'll be able to create cohesive, well-proportioned pieces from start to finish. Ideal for practitioners who want to move beyond experimentation and into skillful, intentional making—refining both technique and sensitivity on the wheel. Topics Covered: • Clay kneading and spiral wedging • Advanced centering and opening • Shaping cylinders, bowls, and cups • Reproducing similar forms using measured amounts of clay • Trimming and foot finishing • Surface refinement and final finishing techniques
